Hanging Pictures Above the Sofa - Tips and Compositions

The most common mistake is having too much space between the top of the sofa and the bottom edge of the composition. It then appears as if the sofa is separate from the pictures. It is important that the sofa and the pictures together create a cohesive vertical composition. This way, your ceilings will look higher, and the room will feel more spacious.

In the first illustration, you see an incorrect compositional option – it elongates the room horizontally but does not create a unified composition.

In the second illustration, you see the correct composition. Note that pictures should be hung about 22 cm above the sofa and leave enough space from the wall corner, edge, or door – otherwise, everything will look very cramped.

Also, the edges of the composition should be even on both sides and at the bottom, so that no piece sticks out. This rule is not always necessary, but if you want a safe and aesthetic option, we recommend using it.
